Rob’s diverse experiences includes an extensive number of owner-managed and family owned businesses, as well as a significant background in the audit and assurance field, including public company, not for profit, film and television, technology and public sector realms. Prior to purchasing the firm, he served as Chief Financial Officer for a variety of public sector junior mining and exploration companies listed on the TSX Venture Exchange. Rob obtained his Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting from Kwantlen Polytechnic University and spent his articling time with Staley Okada & Partners and Price Waterhouse Coopers in Vancouver, BC.
Rob’s main focus is providing auditing, accounting and taxation services to businesses and individuals in a variety of industries such as not for profit’s, public sector, construction, wholesale and retail, incorporated professionals, restaurants, and tourism industry to name a few.
He has a very focused dedication in developing and ensuring his relationships with his clients and understanding and meeting their needs and expectations are the firm’s number one priority.
Rob is currently completing year 2 of 3 of the C.P.A. In-Depth Tax program, Canada’s leading program for tax specialists.
He is a member of the Board of Directors of the Port Alberni Fundraising Co-op, which is known to be the first Community Service Co-op in Canada that operates a for profit business with the purpose of donating all their profits towards Charity. He also serves as a director and treasurer for the Alberni Valley Hospice Society which provides compassionate care, and promotes education and advocacy to individuals and their families facing life-limiting illness, death, and bereavement. Outside of office life, Rob enjoys playing recreational hockey, slo-pitch softball, golf, traveling and spending time exploring the outdoors with his wife and his Rottweiler, Punk.
Linda KuhrChief Operating Officer
Linda moved to BC from Ontario in 1992, with her husband Peter. She raised her three children while working in a variety of accounting positions. She has worked in retail, manufacturing, and the entertainment industry. Linda and her husband have owned two very successful companies where she honed her business acumen. Linda brings a wealth of experience from the corporate world and brings an extremely discerning sense for operational efficiency, and a very client-focused attitude that achieves results. She moved to Port Alberni in January 2015. Linda is a member of the Rotary Club of Port Alberni which provide many community programs in service projects in the Alberni Valley. She is currently pursuing her business degree. In her spare time Linda enjoys spending time with her family at their cabin and running the odd half marathon.
Owen Jones, BBASenior Audit Associate
After receiving a Bachelor’s Degree in Business/Accounting, Owen began working in the accounting field. With 14 years of accounting experience and an emphasis on Not-for-profit audits over the past 6 years, he has well-rounded experience to assist the firms’ clients. Owen is a valuable asset of our team and with his friendly personality he quickly develops trusting relationships with our clients and always ensures they have been provided with the high level of service we believe in. Owen is close to finishing his CPA designation and when not in the office you can find him volunteering his services for youth soccer as a coach, referee and member of the Board of Directors. He also enjoys spending time with his family, walks with the dogs and playing slo-pitch softball.
Vern Weiss, AATSmall Business Manager
Vern started with R. Anderson & Associates Inc. in 1991. He has 26 years of Public Practice experience with a focus on and passion for serving owner managed businesses. He provides all aspects of accounting and tax services to our clients including unincorporated businesses, Not for Profit Organizations, and small to medium sized incorporated companies. Vern has served as Treasurer for various sporting organizations in Port Alberni.When not in the office you can find him on the golf course or exploring the Alberni Valley with his wife and dogs.
Heather GallagherAccounting Technician
Heather specializes in preparing Notice to Reader Financial Statements and Corporate Tax Returns with 28 years’ experience in accounting and bookkeeping. With her many years of experience she is a very valuable member of our team. She produces very high quality work and her pleasant and tactful nature and customer driven focus has resulted in her developing long standing relationships with many of the firm’s clients. In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with her family, hiking, yoga and reading.
Amy Mayo, BBAJr Accountant/ CPA Student
Originally from the Alberni Valley, Amy graduated from Vancouver Island University with a Bachelors of Business Administration. She has a diverse set of work experience thru working in the financial industry for Bank of Nova Scotia for ten years and four years in the fashion industry as well as a year of bookkeeping. Amy is currently studying to complete her CPA with the CPA Western School of Business. She is active in the communityas member of the Young Professionals of the Alberni Valley and participates with several sports team. When she is not in the office or studying, Amy spends her free time hiking trails around the valley, training for a ½ marathon or working on one of her many art projects.
Laura LalondeSenior Bookkeeper
Laura was born and raised in Port Alberni. She has a wonderful supportive husband that she has been married to for 33 years, together they have 2 beautiful children. Before taking the path of bookkeeping Laura was a talented florist. After many years of being a florist, Laura decided to change her career path and began taking courses to start her journey towards bookkeeping. Laura has been an amazingly valued employee of the firm for 10 years. She brings her caring personality along with great determination and extremely dedicated work ethic to enhance our firm and our service to our clients. In Laura’s spare time she enjoys spending time with family that includes her dog, Sophie and watching her husband and now son, drag race both on and off the island.
Suzy van HerwaardenSenior Executive Assistant/Office Manager
Suzy has worked for the firm for the past ten years as executive administrative assistant. Her previous experience includes working for a financial institution, computer instructor for a private business school and various other office-related positions. She brings a very strong set of customer service skills acquired through these past employment positions to the firm. Suzy is very personable and always puts the client’s needs first.
Community involvement has always been an important part of her life and she has volunteered her time for a number of groups. Currently, Suzy is an Emergency Social Services volunteer and serves as a director on Alberni-Clayoquot Continuing Care Society board.
In her free time, she really enjoys and is an avid beginner quilter.
Karen St. PierreSenior Bookkeeper
With over 25 years of working with large corporations, smaller businesses and non-profits in three provinces, Karen brings a broad and diverse range of skills and experience. Since moving to Port Alberni in 2012 her focus has been on providing bookkeeping and accounting services to small businesses across Vancouver Island and she is very happy to join R. Anderson & Associates Inc. in this capacity in 2016. In her spare time Karen is an active volunteer in our community through Canadian Parents for French – Port Alberni Chapter and the Liberal Part of Canada in Courtenay-Alberni. She lives in Port Alberni with her husband Jean-Marc, son Benoit and dog Chico.
